Exploring Catharsis: November 2020–March 2021
This is the first time I have used automatic drawing for intentionally therapeutic purposes. Weekly, I did one drawing in a session. I focused on a memory connected to a series of traumatic events from my teen years, and then just let my hand move across the page free-style. The results of this experiment were that I felt like I was releasing the memory from a dormant state from which I could examine the “scene" or event with new insight. During this process, the marks trace the feelings as they emerge during this process.
