Janet Silk is an artist, writer, and art educator. Silk has professional experience in installation art, sound art, performance art, and creative writing. She has presented and worked on projects around the San Francisco Bay Area at venues such as the Mission Cultural Center, SOMarts Cultural Center, Prelinger Library, and Pro Arts Gallery & Commons.
Her research interests are in contemporary art theory and practice, art education, and metal music studies; she has published essays in peer-reviewed art and culture journals, including The International Journal of Art and Design Education and Helvete: A Journal of Black Metal Theory. Silk is a San José State University
emeritus professor in art and art history and a member of the International Society for Metal Music Studies.
