Janet Silk is an artist and arts educator with over nineteen years of teaching courses in writing for the visual arts and in contemporary art theory, criticism, history, and practice. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art from California Institute of the Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in Art Practice from the University of California, Berkeley. Her research interests include critical theory, metal music studies, performance art theory and practices, and post-secondary arts education. Her employment history includes serving as an Assistant Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Design at Zayed University,Dubai, UAE and as a Lecturer in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the American University in Cairo, Egypt. She was a Lecturer in the Inter-Arts Department at San Francisco State University, California and is a Lecturer in the Department of Art and Art History at San José State University, California.
