Janet Silk is a artist, writer, and art educator. Her research interests focus on metal music studies, contemporary art theory and practice, and art education. She has published essays in peer-reviewed art and culture journals including The International Journal of Art and Design Education and Helvete: A Journal of Black Metal Theory.
Silk has professional experience in installation art, sound art, creative writing, and performance art. She has presented and worked on projects around the San Francisco Bay Area at venues such as SOMarts Cultural Center, Mission Cultural Center, the Prelinger Library, and Pro Arts, Oakland.
She is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Art and Art History at San José State University, California.
